The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the South East is taking firm steps to end the leadership crisis within the party by moving ahead to nominate a new National Secretary next week.
This decision comes as the party’s key stakeholders, led by Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, a member of the House of Representatives and PDP leader in Imo State, confirmed that the process to replace the sacked National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, is already underway.
Ugochinyere stated that the ongoing legal battle reportedly initiated by Anyanwu cannot stop the emergence of a new party scribe. He described the efforts to stop the process through the court as a delay tactic that would not succeed.
Speaking with confidence, Ugochinyere revealed that the South East PDP leaders are rallying behind Udeh Okoye as their preferred choice to become the new National Secretary. According to him, most party leaders and lawmakers from the region have already reached a consensus and will submit Okoye’s name to the National Working Committee (NWC) for approval.
“We have started the process and a nomination will be made soon. Udeh Okoye is widely supported and once approved, he will bring new energy and stability to our party,” he said.
Ugochinyere also commended Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State for his leadership during this difficult period. He praised the governor’s role in keeping the South East PDP united and focused.
The PDP chieftain did not mince words when criticizing Anyanwu, accusing him of working against the interest of the party. He alleged that Anyanwu’s loyalty now lies with the ruling APC, and that this has weakened the PDP from within.
“He chose to abandon his position to run for governor, and that left the office of National Secretary vacant. The party had no choice but to act,” Ugochinyere said.
