“There’s much work to be done, but I’m here for it.”- Bill Gates Assures Nigeria

Billionaire philanthropist and co-founder of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Bill Gates, was honored at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday, where he reflected on 25 years of work in Nigeria and declared his firm belief in the country’s future.

Speaking at Aso Rock, the world’s one time richest man, reassured Nigerians of his commitment to supporting the country’s health and innovation goals despite ongoing challenges.

Gates praised Nigeria’s progress over the past 25 years, highlighting successful vaccination campaigns that have saved millions of lives. He pointed to the impressive rollout of the HPV vaccine, which protected over 12 million young girls against cervical cancer — a disease that claims thousands of Nigerian women annually.

“There’s much work to be done, but I’m here for it,” Gates said confidently, emphasizing his dedication to continuing efforts in fighting diseases like polio and malaria, improving nutrition, and boosting healthcare access.

He acknowledged the financial difficulties ahead due to reduced donor funding but called on Nigeria to prioritize health programs and use resources efficiently. Gates also expressed excitement about Nigeria’s growing innovation scene, especially with the potential of Artificial Intelligence in education, health, and agriculture.
