Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has paid a deeply emotional tribute to the late Awujale of Ijebuland, His Royal Majesty Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, describing his passing as the loss of a national conscience and a king of rare courage.

Reacting to the monarch’s death, Atiku said Oba Adetona’s transition “strikes a deeply emotional chord” despite his long and fulfilled life. According to him, the late Awujale was not just a traditional ruler, but a moral force whose voice shaped national conversations beyond the boundaries of Ijebu land.

“He was a monarch of rare courage, dignity, and divine grace,” Atiku said. “Oba Adetona was a king who spoke truth to power without losing his reverence for tradition or his people. His fearless integrity defined his reign and inspired many.”

Describing the king as a “royal colossus” and a “shining symbol of Black excellence,” Atiku praised Oba Adetona for being a beacon of wisdom whose guidance was sought both within and outside palace grounds.

He expressed his condolences to the people of Ijebuland and Ogun State, adding that the king’s absence would be felt for generations to come.

“This is not just a loss for Ijebu land; it is a loss for Nigeria,” Atiku stated. “May his noble soul rest in eternal peace.”

Oba Sikiru Adetona, one of Nigeria’s longest-reigning monarchs, was revered for his bold views, sense of justice, and unwavering commitment to cultural heritage. His reign left an imprint on both tradition and governance.
