The Nigerian Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT) Ltd is set to storm Calabar, Cross River State, with the South-South edition of its Regional Space-Tech Hackathon and VSAT Training Programme from July 21 to July 26, 2025.
The five-day innovation-packed event is open to students, startups, and tech enthusiasts from across the region, as part of NIGCOMSAT’s ongoing mission to empower young Nigerians with digital skills and satellite-based solutions to local problems.
Participants are expected to register via the NIGCOMSAT website ahead of the event.
According to Mrs. Jane Nkechi Egerton-Idehen, Managing Director and CEO of NIGCOMSAT Ltd, the hackathon will serve as a hub for young minds to brainstorm, design, and build real-life solutions that can address community challenges using space-tech innovations.

“The goal is to drive impact by mentoring young professionals and connecting them with the tools, resources, and guidance needed to bring their ideas to life,” she said.
One major highlight of the programme is the opportunity for the winning team to secure a spot in the prestigious NIGCOMSAT Accelerator Programme Cohort 2025. This gives them access to additional funding, technical support, and national visibility to grow their innovation.

In parallel with the hackathon, 100 young participants will undergo hands-on training in Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) technology — a satellite communication tool widely used to deliver internet access in rural and underserved areas. Successful trainees will receive professional certification, preparing them for career opportunities in Nigeria’s expanding ICT space.
This initiative follows earlier successful editions held in Yola, Adamawa State (February 2025) and Dutse, Jigawa State (April 2025), which recorded high turnout and showcased promising local talents.
By hosting this event, NIGCOMSAT Ltd aims to spark digital transformation across regions, reduce youth unemployment, and build a new generation of satellite-tech innovators.
The upcoming Calabar edition is jointly hosted by NIGCOMSAT Ltd and the Cross Rivers State Government.
