Jonathan Mourns Ghanaian Ministers Killed in Helicopter Crash

Former Nigerian President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic helicopter crash in Ghana that claimed the lives of two senior government ministers and six others.

In a heartfelt condolence message sent to Ghana’s President, John Mahama, and the people of Ghana, Jonathan described the crash as a devastating loss not only for Ghana but for the entire West African region.

The crash, which occurred on Wednesday in Ghana’s Ashanti region, killed Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, along with three other passengers and three crew members. The military helicopter was en route from Accra to Obuasi, a mining town in southern Ghana, when it went down.

Jonathan, in his message, said:

“It is with deep sorrow and a heavy heart that I received the tragic news… They were committed public servants who gave their lives in service to country and duty, and their passing leaves a painful void in the hearts of many.”

He praised the late ministers for their patriotism and sacrifice, noting that their dedication to peace, security, and progress would not be forgotten.

The former Nigerian leader also extended condolences on behalf of his family, the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation, and the people of Nigeria.

“I pray that their legacy continues to inspire future generations of Ghanaian leaders. May God grant you, the affected families, and the people of Ghana the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” Jonathan added.

The tragic incident has left Ghana in mourning, with tributes pouring in from across the African continent.
