Elder statesman and chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Rivers State Chapter, Chief Sergeant Awuse, has praised the political realignments taking place in the State, describing the emerging cooperation between the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) and PDP as “an unbeatable formation” that will bring stability and progress to the state.
Speaking when he received visiting political leaders, Awuse reflected on Nigeria’s political history, drawing parallels with the coalition politics of the Babangida years which balanced interests “a little to the left and a little to the right.” According to him, that model helped stabilize the country in the past, and Rivers State could benefit from a similar spirit of collaboration today.
“All politics is local. What you have done putting APC and PDP together is not far from that brilliant idea,” Awuse said. “In Rivers State now, every other group becomes remnants. I am happy to see continuity, cohesiveness, and friends coming back together. That formation is unbeatable.”
The veteran politician, who has been a player in several political eras, stressed that he welcomed every political party that wishes to engage with his community, but warned that he would never support any political movement that threatens the peace and progress of his people.

“As a traditional and community leader, if I see my people running into a party that will destroy this kingdom, I will tell them to stop,” Awuse declared. “I will not allow my people to go outside the circle of what will bring progress to my community. Nobody should tell me that doesn’t mean anything. What matters is the progress of our people.”
Awuse emphasized that his support is rooted in the protection of his kingdom and Rivers people at large. He noted that while traditional rulers and elders are not expected to play partisan roles, they have a duty to guide their people against destructive political choices.
The PDP stalwart also shared his long-standing political philosophy on elections, insisting that participation and victory at the polls come first before legal contests.

“Win first. If you don’t participate, you didn’t win. You are not a contestant and therefore cannot legitimately argue that you were deprived of your right,” he said. “Crying doesn’t help anything. God will not come and change what man has done without man. God gave man dominion. What we decide here is what happens.”
Awuse concluded by blessing the visiting delegation and reaffirming his commitment to supporting only those political arrangements that guarantee peace, unity, and sustainable development in Rivers State
