The Lagos State Police Command has arrested one 32-year-old man, identified as Chigozie Michael Clement, for allegedly kidnapping a 7-year-old boy in Lagos.
According to police authorities, the incident happened on August 25, 2025, when the victim’s father reported at the Alapere Police Division that his son had been taken away without his consent by a painter working for him. Shortly after, the suspect allegedly called the child’s mother, demanding a ransom of ₦7 million for the boy’s release.
The case was immediately transferred to the Special Squad I of the Lagos State Police Command, which launched a discreet investigation. Acting on intelligence, detectives traced the suspect to Ijegun, Lagos, where he was arrested on August 27, 2025. The child was rescued unhurt from a locked room where he had been kept and has since been reunited with his family.

During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to the crime, claiming he committed the act to raise money for personal family needs. Police say investigations are still ongoing to determine if he had accomplices, and the case will be charged to court soon.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, assured residents that the command remains committed to using all available resources to fight crimes across Lagos.
The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued from Ikeja, on August 28, 2025.
