The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 65-year-old man, Engr. Chibuike AzubUike, who falsely paraded himself as the “Obi of Lagos,” alongside three accomplices.
The suspects—Chief Chibuzor Ani (57), Chief Martins Nwaodika (65), and Ikechukwu Franklin Nnadi (41)—were apprehended in Ikeja following intelligence reports about a planned unlawful installation ceremony.
Police investigations revealed that the group had concluded arrangements to unveil a supposed ₦1.5 billion “Palace of Obi of Lagos State” on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Apple Hall, Amuwo Odofin. Acting swiftly, operatives sealed off the venue to prevent a breach of public peace.

The Lagos Police Commissioner, CP Olohundare Jimoh, confirmed that adequate manpower, including tactical squads and the Eko Strike Force, was deployed to ensure the event did not hold.

He warned Lagos residents to be vigilant against impostors exploiting traditional institutions for selfish gain, stressing that such actions are unlawful and a threat to public peace.
The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue, after which they will be charged to court.
