The detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has dismissed all his legal counsels and informed the court that he will henceforth defend himself in his ongoing trial.
Top legal practitioners, including Kanu Agabi (SAN), Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN), Paul Erokoro (SAN), Emeka Etiaba (SAN), and Nunghe Melaaud (SAN), have all withdrawn from representing Kanu following his decision to take charge of his defense.
During Thursday’s proceedings, Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, acknowledged Kanu’s communication and directed that all lawyers, except the senior counsels, be excused from the courtroom to allow for a streamlined process.

The development marks a significant twist in the long-running legal battle between the federal government and the IPOB leader, who faces charges bordering on terrorism and treasonable felony.
Kanu’s choice to represent himself comes amid ongoing debates over his detention and trial procedures, which his supporters have repeatedly described as politically motivated.
