2027: ‘PDP, LP Has Collapsed, ADC Will Lead the Opposition’ – Kenneth Okonkwo Faults Ex-Party

Nigerian actor and public affairs analyst, Kenneth Okonkwo, has claimed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and his former party, Labour Party (LP) are no longer viable political platforms in Nigeria, insisting that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has emerged as the only functional opposition party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Okonkwo made the assertion while speaking on a political programme, where he dismissed concerns that Nigeria is drifting into a one-party system under the All Progressives Congress (APC). According to him, the recent formal recognition of ADC’s restructured leadership by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on September 10 has positioned the party to challenge APC nationally.

He stated that ADC has established strong political structures across the six geopolitical zones and is gradually attracting Nigerians who are dissatisfied with both the APC and the crisis-ridden opposition platforms.

Okonkwo argued that the PDP has effectively collapsed, citing the ongoing leadership tussle between the National Chairman and National Secretary, each attempting to suspend the other. He said the situation has paralyzed the party’s capacity to produce candidates or organize credible internal processes, which constitutionally justifies the exit of its members.

He accused influential blocs within the PDP of deliberately working to undermine the party for the benefit of President Bola Tinubu.

He stated:
“The people controlling PDP have already endorsed Tinubu for 2027. They are using court cases and internal sabotage to make sure the party cannot present a viable candidate. PDP allowed this to happen. So when I say the party is dead, I am speaking based on law and political reality.”

On the state of the National Assembly, Okonkwo said the legislature has failed to act as an opposition to the ruling party. According to him, lawmakers from parties outside the APC have consistently aligned with ruling party interests, offering no ideological or policy-based resistance.

He referenced the swift adoption of the old national anthem and other key legislative approvals as evidence of what he described as a “rubber-stamp National Assembly.”

Okonkwo insisted that 2027 will be a referendum on the Tinubu administration, arguing that hardship, economic instability, weakening of the naira, and strained diplomatic relations have worsened the living conditions of Nigerians since 2023.

He said the ADC will present a presidential candidate who has not been part of the country’s long-standing governance failures.

“The question Nigerians must ask is: Is your life better today than it was before this administration came in? If the answer is no, then a second term is out of the question. 2027 will not be APC versus PDP. It will be Nigerians versus APC. ADC will form the next government by the grace of God.”

Okonkwo encouraged citizens who are frustrated with current governance to identify with ADC, declaring it as the new rallying point for national rescue.
