The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has conferred its prestigious Most Outstanding Freedom Fighter of the Year 2025 Award on Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, acknowledging his influence, advocacy, and resilience in championing the rights and aspirations of his people.
In an official award letter dated 14th November 2025, NANS praised Nnamdi Kanu for what it described as his “unwavering commitment, courage, and relentless advocacy for the rights, freedom, and self-determination” of millions across Nigeria. The student body noted that Kanu’s voice has remained a strong symbol of hope for many who believe in justice, fairness, and equity.
According to the association, Kanu’s activism and vision have continued to inspire a new generation of Nigerians, especially young people who look up to figures championing socio-political justice. “Your efforts have resonated with millions across Nigeria and beyond, inspiring a generation to stand firm for justice and equity,” the letter stated.
The students further commended his perseverance in the face of adversity, describing him as a leader whose sacrifices remain central to ongoing conversations around freedom and justice in the country. They also extended prayers for his continued strength and protection as he pursues the causes he believes in.
The recognition by NANS adds to the growing list of public acknowledgments directed toward individuals influencing national debates on governance, civil rights, and regional autonomy. It also underscores the central role student bodies continue to play in Nigeria’s political and social advocacy landscape.
