Veteran Nollywood actor, lawyer and political analyst, Kenneth Okonkwo, has declared that Nigeria is on the brink of a major political rebirth, insisting that only a united, credible opposition can rescue the country from what he described as the incompetence, corruption, and failure of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Okonkwo made the assertions during an exclusive interview on Symfoni TV, where he maintained that leadership—not resources is Nigeria’s biggest challenge.
According to him, Nigeria possesses the human and material resources to become a global superpower, but the absence of competent and patriotic leadership continues to hold the nation back. He said his optimism is inspired by the rise of Nollywood, which became the second-largest film industry in the world despite lacking resources. If Nollywood could achieve global recognition when the world gave it no chance, he argued, then Nigeria can also become a superpower.
Okonkwo stressed that the foundation for good leadership is a free, fair, and credible electoral process. Only leaders who truly derive their mandate from the people, he said, would feel compelled to protect the security and welfare of citizens, which he described as the primary responsibility of government.
He dismissed the crises rocking both the PDP and Labour Party, declaring that the two parties are politically dead. According to him, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is now the only viable platform capable of driving meaningful national transformation because it is the product of an 18-month negotiation by opposition groups seeking a credible platform for lasting change. He urged PDP, LP, and all opposition parties to collapse their structures into ADC to build a unified force strong enough to defeat the APC in 2027.

The ADC chieftain also mocked what he called “political transgender governors”—politicians who jump between parties without shame or ideological consistency. However, he praised the Taraba State Governor for suspending his planned defection to the APC due to worsening insecurity. According to him, the governor’s refusal to join the ruling party is a clear vote of no confidence in a government that has failed to secure the country.
Okonkwo argued that the APC has brought unprecedented international embarrassment to Nigeria, noting that global respect for the country has declined sharply. He accused the ruling party of squandering Nigeria’s goodwill and worsening the nation’s reputation.
He also condemned a recent altercation involving a minister and a young army officer who was merely obeying orders. As a lawyer who represents military personnel in courts-martial, Okonkwo described the minister’s behaviour as disgraceful and scandalous. He said obedience and discipline are the backbone of military service, and any attempt to undermine them threatens national security. He praised the officer for remaining calm, professional, and unshaken despite the provocation.
On the state of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Okonkwo maintained that the party is dead and beyond redemption. He said the internal conflict between the national chairman and national secretary shows that the party is irreconcilably divided. What happened recently at Wadata Plaza, he said, was an exhibition of disorder, drunkenness, and internal collapse, leaving the party unfit to contest the 2027 elections or offer Nigerians any credible alternative.
Okonkwo concluded by insisting that Nigeria’s hope lies in a united opposition front anchored on integrity, stability, and a clear national vision. He affirmed that the ADC remains intact, filled with men and women of integrity, and fully positioned to restore Nigeria’s dignity and form the next government.
