Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed the party’s strength and readiness ahead of the 2026 Ekiti governorship election, declaring that the opposition party remains the only viable alternative to what they described as the failures of the APC-led government. Speaking during the post-primary gathering of party stakeholders, members of the Board of Trustees, state chairmen, senators, and representatives collectively pledged full support for the newly elected PDP candidate as well as the National Working Committee.
A member of the Board of Trustees noted that next year’s Ekiti election would be the first major political test of 2026 and would demonstrate the PDP’s renewed relevance. He said the APC is “biting the bullet” while the PDP is re-emerging as the pillar required for Nigeria’s democratic survival. He emphasised that the party must ignore distractions and maintain discipline, noting that the party’s recent convention was successful and that anyone wishing to join the PDP must follow due process. He assured members that the PDP “will never collapse.”
The forum of state chairmen, represented by 30 members physically present, congratulated the primary election committee and pledged total commitment to the Ekiti campaign. They praised the committee led by Senator Damu and others who conducted what they described as a credible and transparent process. The chairmen vowed to join the campaign trail across Ekiti to deliver “the message of hope and rescue” from what they termed bad governance. They criticised the APC-led administration for failing to begin implementation of the 2025 budget even as December 2025 approached, noting that Nigerians now face a clear choice “between light and darkness.”
A senior PDP senator also addressed the gathering, saying the event provided fresh evidence that the party remains strong and alive nationwide. He recalled the founding of the party in 1998 by some of Nigeria’s finest political minds, many of whom did not seek personal gain after establishing the platform. He stressed that countless leaders across Nigeria had benefitted from the party and that the PDP still has the capacity to rediscover itself and reclaim its position. He further congratulated the Ekiti candidate and noted that he and former President B. chaired the three-man electoral committee that produced the primary winner, adding that though they did not personally know the candidate beforehand, they conducted a transparent and credible process.

Members of the House of Representatives also pledged their support, applauding the leadership of the national chairman and the NWC. A leading member of the caucus said lawmakers would not be intimidated despite alleged harassment and pressure. He described Nigeria’s current economic challenges as severe, stating that “every day Nigerians are crying, people are suffering, contractors are dying.” He criticised the government for what he called a historic failure, saying that never before had Nigeria reached December without beginning implementation of the year’s budget. He insisted that PDP lawmakers remain united and committed to ensuring Nigeria is rescued from its present direction.
