Yuletide: ‘Let’s hold unto hope and unity’ – Jonathan Urges Nigerians Amid Challenges

Former President of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, has extended warm Christmas greetings to Nigerians at home and abroad, urging citizens to remain hopeful, united, and committed to the nation’s shared destiny despite prevailing challenges.

In his 2025 Christmas goodwill message, Dr. Jonathan reflected on the significance of Christmas as a celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ and a reminder of God’s promise of redemption, peace, and renewal. He called on Nigerians to draw strength from faith, hope, and unity at a time of economic and social difficulties.

“Christmas is a season that reminds us of the power of faith, humility, and selfless service, and of the enduring light that shines even in times of uncertainty,” the former president said.

Acknowledging the hardships confronting many citizens, Dr. Jonathan urged Nigerians not to give in to despair but to remain resilient and optimistic about the future.

“The history of faith teaches us that hope is most powerful when it is tested. Just as the birth of Christ brought a new dawn to a world in search of direction, our collective faith and resilience will see us triumph over our present trials,” he stated.

He further emphasized peace, unity, and national cohesion as Nigeria’s greatest strengths, noting that compassion, mutual respect, and a sense of shared responsibility are essential to building a stronger and more stable nation.

“Our shared humanity and our willingness to live with compassion, mutual respect, and responsibility toward one another remain the foundation of a stronger nation,” Dr. Jonathan said, encouraging Nigerians to use the Christmas season to foster goodwill and understanding.

The former president concluded by wishing Nigerians peace, joy, and renewed hope during the festive season, expressing optimism for greater blessings in the coming year.

“Merry Christmas, and may the New Year bring renewed blessings to our nation,” he said.
