Former Nigerian President has expressed sympathy to former Kaduna State governor over the death of his mother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai.
Jonathan sent his condolence message in a statement released by his media office, describing the loss of a parent as one of the most painful experiences in life.
According to the former president, he was deeply saddened to hear about the death of El-Rufai’s mother and prayed for strength for the family during this difficult time.
“I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of your beloved mother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai. Please accept my heartfelt condolences during this difficult time,” Jonathan said.
He described the love of a mother as special and lasting, noting that the memories of her care and guidance would remain with the family.
Jonathan also prayed that God would grant El-Rufai and his loved ones the strength to bear the loss.
“I can only imagine the depth of your grief, but I trust that the memories of her love and guidance will continue to sustain you and your family. May God bless her soul and grant you and your loved ones the fortitude to bear this great loss,” he added.
Reports indicate that Hajiya Umma El-Rufai died in Cairo, Egypt, where she had been receiving medical treatment.
Her death has attracted condolences from several political leaders and supporters across Nigeria.
El-Rufai, who served as governor of Kaduna State from 2015 to 2023, remains an influential political figure in the country. The passing of his mother has continued to draw sympathy messages from many Nigerians who have expressed support for the family during this period of mourning.
