The Nigerian Army has emphasized the critical role of satellite technology in addressing modern security challenges, including terrorism, insurgency, and cross-border crimes.
Speaking at Nigerian Satellite Week 2026, Major General K.O. Osemwegie, representing the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General W. Shaibu, praised NIGCOMSAT and its partners for uniting stakeholders to advance Nigeria’s space capabilities.
He noted that satellite intelligence, remote sensing, and communication support are now vital tools for enhancing situational awareness, operational coordination, and decision-making across military operations.
The Army also stressed the importance of collaboration with government agencies, research institutions, private companies, and international partners to fully leverage space technology for national security and socio-economic development.
Major General Osemwegie encouraged participants to share ideas, innovate, and develop practical solutions that will integrate space-based capabilities into Nigeria’s defence and security framework.
He concluded by assuring that the Nigerian Army remains committed to supporting initiatives that harness satellite technology for an extraordinary and secure Nigeria.
