The former National Deputy Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nafiu Bala Gombe, has announced that individuals above 55 years will no longer be allowed to contest for political positions under his leadership.
Speaking during an interview with BBC Hausa, Gombe said the decision is part of a broader reform aimed at promoting youth inclusion and reshaping the party’s leadership structure ahead of future elections.
The self acclaimed Chairman said the party is open to all Nigerians but must now take a new direction that prioritizes younger leaders who will bring fresh ideas and energy into governance.
According to him, “We have decided that we will give the youths a real chance. The time has come for young people to take the lead in politics.”
He further stated that under the new arrangement, any aspirant above 55 years old will be automatically disqualified from contesting for political offices under the ADC platform.
“We want to bring in fresh blood, new ideas, and energy from the youth. Nigeria’s future depends on the young generation,” he added.
Gombe also criticized what he described as the “old political structure,” saying it has not delivered the desired progress for the country and that a shift toward youth participation is necessary.
