President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Nigeria’s new Minister of Foreign Affairs, following the resignation of Yusuf Maitama Tuggar.
Tuggar stepped down from the position to focus on political preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections, creating a vacancy in one of the country’s most strategic ministries.
Odumegwu-Ojukwu, who previously served as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, now takes over the leadership of Nigeria’s diplomatic engagements at a time when the Federal Government is intensifying efforts toward economic diplomacy and strengthening international partnerships.
In a related development, the President has nominated Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, subject to confirmation by the Senate.
Before his nomination, Enikanolaiye served as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and International Relations. A career diplomat with over three decades of experience, he has held key positions within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including serving as Permanent Secretary.
His diplomatic career spans multiple international postings, including assignments in Addis Ababa, Belgrade, Ottawa, London, and New Delhi, underscoring his extensive global experience.
According to the presidency, the appointments form part of broader efforts to reposition Nigeria’s foreign policy architecture for greater efficiency, deeper strategic engagement, and stronger global partnerships.
President Tinubu congratulated both appointees and charged them to prioritise Nigeria’s national interest, advance economic diplomacy, promote regional stability, and ensure the protection and welfare of Nigerians living abroad.
