A political rally in Ntueke, Ideato, turned into a dramatic show of strength for the member representing Ideato Federal Constituency, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere Ikeagwuonu, as thousands of supporters reportedly gathered despite alleged attempts to disrupt the event.
Ugochinyere, in a statement of appreciation following the rally, said the turnout cut across communities and political divides, with residents coming out in large numbers to reaffirm their support for his leadership and representation.
The lawmaker alleged that security operatives fired tear gas and live bullets in an attempt to disperse the crowd, but said the resistance from supporters ensured the rally continued successfully. He described the development as a clear indication of the people’s determination to stand by him.
“I don’t know how to thank you all for the unconditional love and solidarity,” he said, praising constituents for what he called their courage and commitment.
He specifically commended youths who reportedly kept vigil at the venue overnight, as well as residents who refused to leave even during the height of the disruption. According to him, their actions reflected a growing movement driven by the will of the people.
Ugochinyere also revealed plans to support individuals who sustained injuries during the incident, stating that members of his team would visit affected families and hospitals to provide both moral and financial assistance.
Looking ahead, the lawmaker announced that similar rallies would be held across other communities in Ideato, including Arondizuogu, Dikenafai, Isiekenesi, and Urualla, as part of ongoing grassroots mobilization efforts.
He further disclosed that the rallies would be followed by a series of project commissioning activities across the constituency, aimed at showcasing what he described as his track record in legislative performance and community development.
Reaffirming his position, Ugochinyere maintained that no form of intimidation would stop what he called the “people’s movement,” insisting that the support he enjoys remains strong and widespread.
The Ntueke rally, despite the controversy surrounding it, appears to have intensified political momentum in Ideato, setting the stage for heightened activity in the coming weeks.
