The member representing Ideato North/South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, has warned opposition political parties in Nigeria to stop internal attacks and unite in the interest of democracy and national development.
Ugochinyere, in a press statement issued in Abuja, specifically called on the African Democratic Congress, Labour Party, and Nigerian Democratic Congress to end public confrontations, accusations, and media attacks capable of weakening the opposition ahead of the 2027 elections.
The opposition lawmaker described the growing culture of infighting among opposition figures as childish, unnecessary, and counterproductive, stressing that Nigerians expect credible alternatives from opposition leaders rather than endless quarrels and political bitterness.
“This is not the time for unnecessary fights and media attacks against one another. Nigerians expect the opposition to provide direction, hope, and credible alternatives, not endless quarrels that weaken collective strength,” Ugochinyere stated.
He warned that personal interests and ego-driven politics must not be allowed to derail efforts aimed at building a stronger and more united opposition capable of inspiring public confidence.
According to him, political leaders across opposition parties must embrace cooperation, dialogue, and strategic alliance-building in order to strengthen democratic values and offer Nigerians a more effective political alternative.
Ugochinyere also urged opposition parties to focus on pressing national challenges affecting citizens, including insecurity, unemployment, economic hardship, and governance concerns, instead of dissipating energy on internal divisions and public feuds.
“The people are watching. What Nigerians want to see is maturity, unity, and a common purpose. Opposition politics should not become a battlefield of insults and bitterness,” he added.
