The lawmaker representing Surulere I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Desmond Elliot, has officially withdrawn from the ongoing All Progressives Congress (APC) re-election race, citing alleged intimidation and obstruction of his supporters.
Elliot made the announcement in a video circulating on social media on Wednesday, where he accused political actors of preventing his supporters from participating in the process across different zones.
According to him, the situation forced him to step down from the contest.
“My name is Desmond Elliot. In all zones, they have been intimidating and stopping us. I want to officially announce my withdrawal from this particular race. This is my ward; if you go outside, those are my people outside, and they have not been allowed, so I am officially announcing my withdrawal from this race. Good luck, thank you,” he said.
The actor-turned-politician currently represents Surulere I constituency in the Lagos State House of Assembly and was seeking another term on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.
His withdrawal adds to the growing drama surrounding the APC primaries in Lagos, amid complaints of irregularities, intimidation, and internal party tensions in some constituencies.
