Former Labour Party vice-presidential candidate, Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, has revealed that he had envisioned playing a leading role in tackling Nigeria’s security crisis if Peter Obi had emerged president.
Speaking during an interview on Symfoni TV’s Niger Unfiltered, Datti said he believed the strongest synergy between himself and Obi would have been for Obi to focus on economic reforms while he concentrated on addressing insecurity, particularly in Northern Nigeria.
According to him, one of the key ideas he had hoped to discuss with Obi was allowing him to spearhead efforts to restore security across the country.
“What I felt the synergy between us was that if Peter Obi was handling the economy, I would beg him… this insecurity in the North, do you mind allowing me… let me do it,” Datti said.
The former lawmaker insisted that Obi remains a capable leader despite disagreements over political strategy and decisions taken after the 2023 presidential election.
