Governor Seyi Makinde has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew across 10 local government areas in Oyo State, citing security concerns in communities bordering the Old Oyo National Park.
The restriction, announced by the state government on Tuesday night, takes effect from Wednesday and will run for an initial period of 48 hours.
According to a memo issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Musibau Babatunde, residents of the affected areas are required to remain indoors between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. daily throughout the duration of the curfew.
The development was also confirmed in a statement released by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Mr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju.
The affected local government areas are Oriire, Orelope, Irepo, Saki West, Saki East, Atisbo, Itesiwaju, Iseyin, Olorunsogo and Atiba.
The state government said the measure is temporary and is aimed at strengthening security and maintaining public order in the affected border communities. Authorities urged residents to cooperate with security agencies and comply fully with the directive while the curfew remains in force.
Officials are expected to review the situation at the end of the 48-hour period before deciding on any further action.
