Terrorists have demanded an additional N300 million ransom from the family of a Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC) Permanent Commissioner, Ahmed Mohammed, nearly nine months after his abduction.
The fresh demand comes despite reports that the family had already paid N40 million to the kidnappers in an effort to secure his release.
Ahmed was abducted on September 29, 2025, along the Mokwa–Ibbi Road in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State while travelling to Minna on an official assignment.
The incident occurred just weeks before the November 1, 2025, local government elections in Niger State, in which the electoral commissioner was expected to play a key role.
According to Daily Trust, a family member, who requested anonymity, disclosed that the kidnappers re-established contact on Monday and demanded an additional N300 million before releasing the victim.
The source said the abductors have continued to call the family almost daily to press their demand.
“They call almost every day. It was only yesterday (Tuesday) that they did not call. They requested for additional N300 million. We are appealing to the Niger State Government to come to our aid and secure his release. He was kidnapped while on an official engagement of the Niger State Government,” the family member said.
The family said it has exhausted its financial capacity after previously raising and paying N40 million, stressing that it cannot afford the new ransom demand.
Relatives are now appealing to the Niger State Government to intervene and facilitate Ahmed Mohammed’s release, noting that he was carrying out official government duties at the time of his abduction.
The incident underscores the persistent security challenges in parts of Niger State, where kidnappings for ransom have continued despite ongoing security operations.
