Pamo University of Medical Sciences has issued a strict 24-hour ultimatum to the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule, demanding an immediate retraction and apology over alleged defamatory statements made during the presentation of the 2026 Appropriation Act. The ultimatum was delivered in a swift legal demand letter signed by prominent legal practitioner Ayodeji Adedipe, SAN.

The legal showdown stems from comments made by the Speaker at the Executive Council Chambers in Port Harcourt. According to the document, Amaewhule publicly claimed that a ₦6 billion budget proposal for the university was reviewed by the House, while further alleging that the institution lacked transparency and failed to account for taxpayers’ money allocated to it over the years. The Speaker also asserted that the university management evaded invitations and refused to present records to the House Committee.

Rejecting the allegations in their entirety, the university’s legal counsel declared the Speaker’s assertions “totally false and unfounded.” The institution clarified that it has never been invited by the House of Assembly to defend any state-provided funds. The management maintained that all financial resources received from the Rivers State Government are strictly and judiciously applied toward its running scholarship scheme for local students, arguing that the Speaker’s remarks falsely paint the university as an irresponsible and fraudulent institution that diverted public funds.

Consequently, the legal team has demanded a full retraction of the malicious statements and a formal apology to the institution for sullying its integrity. The letter explicitly warns that if these conditions are not met within 24 hours of notification, the university will immediately initiate legal proceedings in a court of competent jurisdiction to seek full remedies without further notice to the Speaker.
