The Rivers State Government has dismissed reports of a disagreement between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly over the state’s 2026 Appropriation Bill.
The government described the reports as misleading, insisting that the executive and legislative arms are working together to advance the interests of the people of Rivers State.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, the government said the 2026 budget proposal had already been presented to the House of Assembly and was undergoing the normal legislative process.
According to the statement, Governor Fubara is “not at loggerheads” with lawmakers, contrary to reports suggesting tension between the two arms of government over the proposed budget.
The state government expressed confidence that the Rivers State House of Assembly would complete its consideration of the 2026 Appropriation Bill and pass it in accordance with established legislative procedures.
“The 2026 Budget proposal has been presented to the House of Assembly; it is going through the normal legislative process and we strongly believe that once the process is completed, it will be passed by the lawmakers,” Nzeshi said.
The clarification comes against the backdrop of reports in some national newspapers and online platforms alleging a disagreement between the executive and legislative arms over the budget.
The Rivers State Government said it was concerned that such reports could create unnecessary tension and revive controversies in a state that has experienced significant political challenges in recent years.
It therefore urged individuals and groups promoting what it described as negative narratives to desist from doing so, stressing that peace and cooperation were necessary for the state’s continued development.
“The Rivers State Government has gone through difficult times in the past and is not prepared to be dragged into another round of controversies,” the statement said.
The government maintained that Governor Fubara and members of the House of Assembly were working closely together and called for an atmosphere of peace and harmony as the legislative process on the 2026 budget continues.
