The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince Adewole Adebayo, has declared his willingness to support any opposition candidate who can deliver good governance and address poverty and insecurity in Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general election.
Adebayo made the position known in an exclusive interview with Symfoni during a meeting with the G-100 coalition, which is engaging opposition presidential candidates as part of efforts to build a united front against President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
The SDP candidate said his participation in the coalition was not driven by personal ambition but by the need to rescue Nigeria from its current challenges.
According to him, he would be willing to serve in any capacity in a future government, including as a cleaner or gatekeeper, provided the government could end poverty and insecurity.
“If I’m sure that that government is going to end poverty in this country and is going to end insecurity, I can even be a cleaner in that government,” Adebayo said.
He stressed that the opposition must look beyond individual ambitions and political party interests to establish a platform capable of convincing Nigerians that a change in leadership would bring genuine improvements in governance.
Adebayo also criticised the Tinubu administration over insecurity, economic hardship and its handling of the petroleum sector, describing the government’s 30-day petrol discount initiative as a political gimmick.
He questioned the policy’s implementation and its potential to ease the burden on Nigerians, arguing that the country needed more credible and sustainable solutions to its economic challenges.
The SDP presidential candidate further urged Nigerians to reject Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, while expressing confidence in the SDP as a platform for addressing the country’s problems.
Earlier, the National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, told Symfoni that the G-100 coalition was engaging presidential candidates of collaborating parties to strengthen opposition unity and explore options for the 2027 election.
Baba-Ahmed said the coalition was open to different arrangements, including a consensus candidate, but maintained that its priority was to change Nigeria’s leadership and improve governance.
The coalition’s visit to Adebayo marks the third opposition presidential candidate the coalition has engaged in its ongoing consultations ahead of the 2027 general election.
