Prominent Nigerian activist, Aisha Yesufu, has announced her resignation from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and her defection to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), signaling a major political shift ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Yesufu said her decision was driven by her continued support for Peter Obi, whom she described as embodying “the hope and aspiration of a Nigeria that works.”
She emphasized that her political alignment has consistently followed her commitment to Obi’s leadership, noting that her earlier move to the ADC was also influenced by that support.
In a decisive escalation of her political ambition, Yesufu declared her intention to contest for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Senatorial seat under the NDC platform.
“This time I am joining the NDC not just as a member but as one running for the FCT Senatorial seat,” she stated.
The activist further disclosed that she had completed all obligations within the ADC, ensuring what she described as a “clean transition.” She also reflected on her time in the party, highlighting her roles across various committees and expressing gratitude to colleagues.
Her move comes amid intensifying political realignments and growing momentum around emerging coalitions linked to Obi’s political base, suggesting that the battle for Abuja’s senatorial seat could become a high-stakes contest.
