The Labour Party has called for the arrest of the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero over the forceful invasion of its party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday.
Some NLC members had earlier in the day carried out the invasion to protest the party’s national convention planned for the end of March.
The National Publicity Secretary of Labour Party, Comrade Arabambi Abayomi during a press conference held in Abeokuta, Wednesday, described the invasion as a planned political insurrection against the federal government through a conduct likely to cause breach of public peace in the country.
He also described the invasion as a move by the NLC Led by Comrade Ajaero to forcefully take over the Labour Party through a ‘coup d’etat’ in order to overthrow the party leadership.
He accused the NLC boss of attempting to install one Ladi Iliya from the North as the LP Ag Chairman and Kenneth Okwonko, as Ag National Secretary in order to pursue his 2027 presidential ambition.
Arabambi however called on the Inspector General of Police and the Director General of DSS to arrest Joe Ajaero for alleged treason.
“We are worried of the move by the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC Led by Comrade Ajaero to forcefully takes over the Labour Party which they have done today like a coup d’etat in order to overthrow our party leadership in order to pursue his Presidential Ambition in 2027 which can never and shall not be possible in Labour party
“The Joe Ajaero led Political Terrorists Organization ( NLC) are aware that there was a leadership turtle in our party which is purely our internal affairs which is before the supreme Court , we then wondered why this haste to pre-determined the outcome rather than proceeding to the court to join as necessary parties”, he said
