Protests by youths of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) continued in Lagos on Tuesday under the banner #OccupyINEC, following the expiration of a 72-hour ultimatum issued to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The demonstrators are demanding the immediate restoration of what they describe as the legitimate leadership of the party under Senator David Mark and Rahu Arah, insisting that INEC had previously recognized the structure after a national party meeting held in 2025.
According to the protesters, the electoral commission’s failure to act within the stipulated timeframe amounts to institutional bias and a breach of democratic principles. They accused INEC of ignoring verified party records and interfering in internal political matters.
The group maintained that the ultimatum issued earlier during their protest in Lagos has now elapsed without compliance from the commission, prompting a continuation of their demonstrations.
They are demanding the immediate reinstatement of the David Mark-led leadership, a public apology from INEC to Nigerians, and strict adherence to constitutional limits in handling party affairs. They also called for what they described as a review of leadership at the commission level, citing loss of public confidence.
The youths warned that failure to meet their demands would lead to a peaceful and lawful occupation of INEC offices across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
They further framed the protest as part of a broader struggle for electoral credibility, transparency, and democratic accountability in Nigeria.
