Presidential candidate for the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) and Former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, has mourned veteran Nollywood actor, Olu Jacobs, describing him as an embodiment of the excellence of the Nigerian spirit.
Obi, in a tribute following the announcement of Jacobs’ death by his family on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, said the legendary actor made remarkable contributions to Nigeria’s film and creative industry through a career spanning several decades in Britain and Nigeria.
According to Obi, Jacobs’ life and career demonstrated the importance of talent, discipline, professionalism and dedication to one’s craft.
He said the actor’s death was a reminder that life is limited and that everyone entrusted with responsibilities should strive to make meaningful contributions to society.
“Olu Jacobs represented the excellence of the Nigerian spirit. He exemplified this through his remarkable contributions to the film and creative industry, in a career spanning several decades across both Britain and Nigeria,” Obi said.
He added that Jacobs “lived a life that demonstrated the power of talent, discipline, professionalism and dedication to one’s craft.”
Obi extended his thoughts and prayers to Jacobs’ family, friends, colleagues and the wider Nigerian creative community.
“I pray that the Almighty will grant his loved ones, and our nation, the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss.
“May the good Lord grant our father, Olu Jacobs, and all the faithful departed eternal rest. Amen,” he said.
