The Peoples Democratic Party has issued a sharp rebuttal to recent comments made by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, describing his media engagement as a “political swan song” marked by “moral emptiness, opportunism, and post-loss trauma.”
In a press statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the PDP said Nigerians were subjected to what it termed an “unsolicited overdosage of political rascality” during Wike’s outing, adding that the remarks amounted to a “show of shame” that required no formal rebuttal.
The party went further to issue what it described as a “profuse apology to Nigerians” for previously supporting platforms that enabled Wike’s rise as governor, minister, and political actor, arguing that his public conduct has become a “national embarrassment.”
Reacting to allegations made during the media session, the PDP urged individuals who feel defamed by Wike’s statements to seek legal redress, stressing that no individual is above the law.
The statement also dismissed claims of internal party control and influence, insisting that Wike’s alleged political promises within the party have failed, particularly regarding efforts to control or influence ongoing party activities. It maintained that the PDP is currently focused on its sale of nomination forms, primaries, and preparations for a national convention aimed at producing a credible presidential candidate.
Addressing legal and financial concerns raised by the minister, the party said it was awaiting Certified True Copies of court judgments referenced in the dispute and challenged Wike to clarify the specifics of cross-appeals linked to his allies. It also rejected suggestions of irregular financial operations, insisting that the party operates legitimate accounts.
The PDP concluded by stating that “no amount of threats will frighten the truth,” adding that while falsehood may spread quickly, it cannot withstand scrutiny in the long run.
