The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has clarified that the ongoing Permanent Voter Card (PVC) collection exercise applies exclusively to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) ahead of the February 21, 2026, Area Council Election.
In a statement posted on its official X handle on Thursday, INEC urged residents of other states not to rely on unverified information regarding PVC collection in their areas. The commission emphasized that schedules for PVC collection outside the FCT have not yet been determined.
“Dear residents of other states, the current PVC collection exercise applies only to the FCT, ahead of the February 21, 2026, Area Council Election. For other States, the dates for PVC collection have not yet been fixed by the Commission,” INEC stated.
Eligible voters in the FCT are encouraged to collect their PVCs at their respective Registration Areas (wards) between January 22 and January 26, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm daily. Those unable to collect their cards within the specified period can visit INEC Area Council offices across the FCT afterwards.
INEC assured that once the collection dates for other states are finalised, they would be officially communicated on all its platforms. The commission also called on voters outside the FCT to exercise patience and avoid relying on unofficial sources.

“Once the schedule is finalised, it will be officially announced on all INEC platforms. We urge all eligible voters in other States to wait for official communication and avoid relying on unverified information. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation,” the statement added.
