Rivers PDP
Rivers PDP: The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State has strongly criticized Dr. George Nwaeke over statements he made during an interview on Channels Television on Friday, March 28, 2025. The party described Nwaeke’s claims against Governor Siminalayi Fubara as false, misleading, and politically motivated.
At a press conference held in Port Harcourt, the PDP addressed the ongoing political crisis in the state, particularly the controversial declaration of a state of emergency by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on March 18, 2025. The party insists that there was no justification for the declaration, as Rivers State was not experiencing war, insecurity, or any natural disaster that warranted such drastic action.
The PDP stated that the appointment of a Sole Administrator to oversee the state’s affairs has only resulted in the dismantling of governance structures established by Governor Fubara. The party listed various actions taken by the Sole Administrator, including the sacking of all commissioners and special advisers, the suspension of local government chairmen and government board members, the dissolution of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, and the request for nominal rolls and activities of local governments over the past two years. According to the PDP, these actions do not align with the goal of restoring peace and order. Instead, they believe it is a politically motivated attempt to weaken Governor Fubara’s administration.
The Rivers PDP also took aim at Dr. George Nwaeke, the former Head of Service in Rivers State, who recently resigned. The party alleged that Nwaeke was coerced into becoming a tool for Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike’s political agenda. “Nwaeke is not under any spell or duress,” the PDP stated. “He is a career civil servant who has served for over 40 years. He knows exactly what he is doing.”

The party accused Nwaeke of spreading false claims, including allegations that Governor Fubara planned to destroy oil pipelines, that his administration had hostile relations with labor unions, and that huge sums of money were being spent on media propaganda. The PDP dismissed these accusations as baseless, arguing that since assuming office in May 2023, Governor Fubara has maintained a peaceful administration and a cordial relationship with labor unions.

The Rivers PDP urged Governor Fubara to fully implement the Supreme Court judgment, which includes conducting local government elections scheduled for Saturday, August 9, 2025, allowing the Rivers State House of Assembly to function with Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule presiding as Speaker, and re-presenting the 2025 budget to the House of Assembly.
TheRivers PDP party also called on Amaewhule and his fellow lawmakers to embrace peace and work towards the state’s progress by facilitating the budget process and dropping any impeachment plans against the governor.

Addressing the role of Nyesom Wike, the PDP urged the FCT Minister to ensure peace in Rivers State and promote a good working relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government. The party reminded him that during his tenure as governor, he enjoyed such cooperation. To Rivers elders and the general public, the PDP reassured them of Governor Fubara’s commitment to transparent governance and urged them to continue supporting his administration.
The PDP firmly denied Nwaeke’s claims that the governor had planned to bomb oil facilities, stating that there had been no such incidents since Fubara took office. They also dismissed accusations against the Ijaw ethnic group, labeling them as divisive and false. “The Ijaw people are peaceful,” the party declared. “They have contributed immensely to Nigeria’s development and deserve respect.”
Furthermore, the PDP ridiculed Nwaeke’s claim of frequently staying at the Government House, stating that he had no official quarters there. They also rejected his call for Rivers people to reconsider their support for Fubara, saying that his betrayal had cost him credibility.
The Rivers PDP concluded the press conference by condemning Nwaeke’s actions, likening him to Judas Iscariot. The party insisted that his actions were driven by financial inducement rather than genuine concerns for the state. “We call on the President to disregard Nwaeke’s claims and see the desperation of his minister, Nyesom Wike,” the party stated.
They urged Governor Fubara to remain calm and focused on governance while encouraging Rivers people to continue trusting his leadership. “Long live Governor Siminalayi Fubara, long live Rivers State, and long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
