Udeh Okoye Resigns from PDP, Says Party has Lost Its Moral Compass

The former National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Udeh Okoye, has resigned from the party, declaring that it has “lost its moral compass and ideological direction.”

In a resignation letter dated October 13, 2025, and addressed to the Ward Chairman of the PDP, Agbogugu Ward, Awgu Local Government Area, Enugu State, Okoye said his decision followed “deep reflection and careful consideration.”

“After deep reflection and careful consideration, I wish to formally tender my resignation as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party.
This decision did not come lightly,”
he wrote.

Okoye, who once served as National Youth Leader and later as National Secretary of the PDP, expressed deep gratitude to the party “for the invaluable opportunity to contest and serve as a Member of the Enugu State House of Assembly, the National Youth Leader of the party, and most recently, as the National Secretary.”

In the letter, Okoye lamented that the PDP had strayed from its founding principles of unity, justice, and equity, which once made it a “beacon of hope for democratic governance.”

“Over time, I have watched with increasing concern as the ideals and vision of the founding fathers of the PDP, built on the principles of unity, justice, and equity, have been eroded,” he said.

According to him, “The PDP that once stood as a beacon of hope for democratic governance has regrettably lost its moral compass and ideological direction.”

He said his conscience would no longer allow him to remain in a system that “has strayed so far from its original purpose.”

“After much contemplation, I have come to the solemn conclusion that I can no longer, in good conscience, remain within a system that has strayed so far from its original purpose.
Therefore, I am compelled to part ways with the PDP as I embark on a progressive journey dedicated to restoring the values of democracy, accountability, and service to the people, which the party has sadly abandoned,” h
e declared.

Despite his sharp criticism, Okoye ended his letter on a conciliatory note, thanking colleagues and party faithful for their years of cooperation and friendship.

“I thank you, the ward executives, and all party members at all levels for your support, friendship, and shared moments of service,” he wrote.

Recent months have seen a wave of resignations and defections from the PDP to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and other parties, driven largely by internal crises, leadership disputes, ideological drift, and political realignments ahead of 2027.

This was easy to follow, even for someone new like me.
