The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has commenced engagements ahead of the 2027 presidential election with a courtesy visit to the Soun of Ogbomosoland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, Orumogege III, at his palace in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
The visit brought together political engagement and traditional leadership, with discussions centred on Nigeria’s future, governance, national development and the credibility of the 2027 electoral process.
During the meeting, Oba Ghandi commended Adebayo for his intellectual capacity but questioned how the SDP presidential candidate intends to address election rigging in 2027, given the importance of numbers in electoral politics.
Responding, Adebayo said the SDP would establish a dedicated department within the party to document and monitor how the election would play out across polling units.
He also expressed confidence that Nigerians would take responsibility for protecting their votes and ensuring that their choices at the polls are counted.
The Soun urged Adebayo and the SDP to work closely with Nigerians in executing their plans, stressing that the people’s votes must count.
The engagement also touched on youth inclusion, cultural values and the role of traditional institutions in promoting peace and national development.
Adebayo was accompanied by former House of Representatives Majority Leader, Honourable Mulikat Akande-Adeola; SDP National Chairman, Professor Sadiq Gombe; and the party’s Vice Presidential Candidate, Dr Usman Bugaje.
