The G100 coalition has visited the presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince Adewole Adebayo, to seek opposition collaboration ahead of the 2027 general election, in a move aimed at unseating President Bola Tinubu.
The visit marks the third opposition presidential candidate the coalition has engaged as part of efforts to unite political forces against the incumbent administration.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Symfoni, the National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, said the coalition was meeting candidates of collaborating parties to build a strong opposition capable of bringing about political change in 2027.
Baba-Ahmed said the G100 had previously visited the presidential candidates of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and another party, adding that the group was seeking support and assuring candidates that they were part of a collective effort to change Nigeria’s leadership.
He said the coalition was open to different options, including a possible consensus candidate, stressing that its priority was to rescue Nigeria from what he described as the poor governance of the Tinubu administration.
In his response, Adebayo said he was committed to supporting any arrangement that would prioritise ending poverty and insecurity, even if he did not emerge as the consensus candidate.
The SDP presidential candidate said the coalition must focus on presenting Nigerians with an alternative that offers good governance rather than merely replacing one political leader with another.
Adebayo also criticised the Federal Government’s 30-day petrol discount initiative, describing it as a political gimmick and questioning its effectiveness in reducing the hardship faced by Nigerians.
He argued that the government had failed to provide sufficient details about the initiative and called for a more credible approach to addressing the country’s fuel crisis.
The SDP candidate further urged Nigerians to vote against Tinubu in 2027, citing poverty, insecurity and what he described as failures in governance.
Both leaders maintained that opposition collaboration was necessary to change the country’s political direction, with the G100 expressing confidence that its engagement with candidates and political parties would strengthen efforts towards a united opposition ahead of the 2027 elections.
