2027: ‘I don’t mind changing parties 20 times’ – Obi warns ahead of ADC primaries

Obi says he will begin transformation work from the North when he becomes President

Former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has warned that he could leave the African Democratic Congress (ADC) if the party’s internal processes ahead of the 2027 elections are compromised.

Obi made the remarks during an interview on Arise TV on Monday, where he reflected on his previous movements between political parties and reiterated his commitment to transparent democratic processes.

According to the former Anambra State governor, he would not hesitate to change political platforms again if fairness is not guaranteed within the ADC.

“If that process is again compromised, I will speak out. If I have to move 20 times, I will,” Obi stated.

He explained that his earlier exits from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP) were informed by what he described as transactional politics and internal irregularities that conflicted with his principles.

Obi recalled leaving the PDP to avoid involvement in what he termed a system influenced by inducements rather than merit-based participation.

“I cannot be part of a transactional primaries. I cannot be paying people to go and serve them,” he said.

The former governor stressed that his political decisions have consistently been guided by his belief in transparency, accountability and responsible leadership.

Speaking further on his 2027 presidential ambition, Obi urged Nigerians not to support him based on ethnic or religious considerations but on competence and his vision for national transformation.

“I’ve said before, do not vote for me because I’m from the South-East. Do not vote for me because I am a Christian,” he said.

“Vote for me because I am committed to turning Nigeria around.”

Obi added that his administration, if elected, would prioritise restoring productivity across the country, particularly in Northern Nigeria, as part of efforts to strengthen security and economic stability.

“We will move the country from consumption to production and from sharing wealth to creating wealth,” he added.
