President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that he will campaign for a second term in the 2027 presidential election, describing himself as a “stubborn politician” who cannot be forced out of power by rising insecurity or criticism.
Tinubu made the statement while receiving Plateau State Governor, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang and other stakeholders from the State.
Addressing concerns over the country’s worsening security situation, the President suggested that critics highlighting insecurity were indirectly advancing the interests of his political adversaries.
“You are playing to the hand of agents, including my own enemies, who want to use insecurity to get rid of me,” he said.
Reaffirming his resolve, Tinubu added, “I’m a very stubborn politician. I just refuse to go. And I will campaign for my second term.”
His comments come amid sustained attacks, kidnappings, and killings across parts of Nigeria, which have drawn sharp reactions from opposition figures and civil society groups calling for more decisive government action.
However, the President has continued to defend his administration’s approach, insisting that security agencies are being strengthened and supported to tackle threats and restore stability nationwide.
Tinubu, who assumed office in May 2023, is expected to complete his first term in 2027, when Nigerians will vote in the next general election.
