Nigeria’s House of Representatives member, Sergius Ogun, has declared that the 2027 presidential election will not be decided by the Independent National Electoral Commission, the judiciary or security agencies, insisting that the Obidient movement is already preparing to deploy technology to stop election rigging and independently upload polling unit results in real time across the country.
Ogun, who represented Esan North-East/Esan South-East Federal Constituency between 2015 and 2023, made the remarks during an interview on Nigeria Unfiltered on Symfoni TV, where he also maintained that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu “has no pathway” back to Aso Rock if the election is free and fair.
Former House of Representatives member, Sergius Ogun, has declared that Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, remains the strongest opposition figure ahead of the 2027 presidential election, insisting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu “has no pathway” to retain power if Nigerians are allowed to vote freely.
Speaking on Nigeria Unfiltered on Symfoni TV, Ogun defended Obi’s decision to dump the ADC coalition and move to the NDC, saying the former Anambra governor would not submit himself to what he described as Nigeria’s “corrupt primary election process.”
According to him, signs had already emerged within the coalition that Obi was unlikely to secure the presidential ticket despite consultations with party leaders and stakeholders.
“I would have preferred he stayed in ADC because we were already entrenched there, but it became clear to some of us that he was not likely to get the ticket,” Ogun said.
The former lawmaker, who represented Esan North-East/Esan South-East Federal Constituency between 2015 and 2023, revealed that he also followed Obi into the NDC without hesitation.
“Wherever Peter Obi goes, we go,” he declared.
Ogun dismissed criticisms that Obi avoids party primaries, arguing that Nigeria’s delegate system had become heavily monetised and compromised.
“The so-called primaries in Nigeria are corrupt. People pay huge sums to get tickets and once they enter office they must repay political godfathers and stakeholders,” he said.
He further alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress manipulated its recent presidential primaries, describing the exercise as “a sham.”
Reacting to President Tinubu’s reported landslide victory at the APC primaries, Ogun said the figures meant little and would not reflect the reality of the 2027 general election.
“They can count themselves two or three times if they like, but 2027 will not be determined by INEC, security agencies or the judiciary. It will be determined by the people,” he stated.
The former federal lawmaker claimed the opposition was already developing technological systems to monitor and independently upload polling unit results during the next election cycle to prevent manipulation.
He also launched a scathing attack on the current administration, insisting that Nigerians had seen no tangible improvement under Tinubu.
“I can’t point to one achievement of this government. People were told he had the magic wand from Lagos, but governance is not propaganda,” Ogun said.
On the growing debate over age and leadership in Nigeria, the ex-lawmaker questioned why the country continued to recycle elderly politicians despite its youthful population.
“We have over 200 million people and more than 60 per cent are young, yet we keep relying on people in their 80s to govern us,” he argued.
Ogun disclosed that he intends to contest the Edo Central Senatorial seat under the NDC platform in 2027, adding that he and like-minded politicians would defend an Obi presidency from sabotage if elected.
“We will be in the Senate to make sure nobody touches Peter Obi because if you allow the wrong people there, they will impeach him,” he said.
