The Rivers State governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dr Gabriel Pidomson, has pledged to mobilise support for former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar in the 2027 presidential election, expressing confidence that the party would deliver Rivers State for him.
Pidomson made the pledge during an interview on Naija Unfiltered, a Symfoni TV programme, where he discussed his political ambition, relationship with former governor Rotimi Amaechi and plans for the state.
He expressed support for a potential Atiku–Amaechi alliance, insisting that Amaechi would help secure Rivers for Atiku. He also said he would remain independent as governor if elected, rather than be controlled by a political godfather.
Outlining his agenda, Pidomson identified security, healthcare, education, job creation and infrastructure as priorities. He proposed a 30-year development plan, which he said he would seek to introduce within his first 100 days in office.
His other proposals include establishing 20,000 greenhouses, promoting fisheries and the blue economy, improving teachers’ welfare, expanding vocational education, and addressing flooding and inadequate public water supply.
He also proposed a digital street-naming and house-numbering system estimated to cost between ₦14 billion and ₦15 billion, alongside an integrated emergency response system targeting a 15-minute response time.
The former Rivers State House of Assembly member and former Secretary to the State Government under Celestine Omehia also defended Omehia’s brief 2007 administration and discussed political representation and power-sharing in Rivers State.
On the electoral process, Pidomson said the ADC was preparing to mobilise voters and protect its votes, urging citizens to remain at polling units to ensure their ballots were counted and transmitted.
He said his ambition was to establish lasting institutions and promote development that would improve the lives of Rivers residents.
