Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has addressed growing speculation about a possible joint ticket with Atiku Abubakar ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking on Naija Unfiltered, a Symfoni podcast, Obi made it clear that discussions about becoming a vice-presidential candidate are premature.
“At this stage, we are not there yet,” he said, noting that Atiku’s comment about picking a running mate was conditional.
He added that his current focus remains on contesting for the presidency.
“I am contesting for the office of the President,” Obi stated firmly.
Now aligned with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Obi said the coalition is working to bring together capable leaders to challenge the ruling government in 2027.
He stressed that any outcome within the party must come from a transparent and credible primary process.
Obi also used the opportunity to restate his position on leadership, insisting that competence—not tribe or religion—should determine who leads Nigeria.
