The Governor of Abia State, Alex Chioma Otti, has received his Labour Party nomination form free of charge from the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), in what party leaders described as recognition of his “outstanding performance” in office.
The presentation ceremony took place on Thursday at the Abia State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, where the National Chairman of the Labour Party, Nenadi Usman, led other top party officials to formally hand over the nomination forms to Governor Otti.
Speaking during the ceremony, Senator Usman praised Otti for serving as the “poster boy” of the party and for implementing the Labour Party’s principles of equal opportunities and social justice in the governance of Abia State.
According to her, the party decided to offer the nomination forms to the governor free of charge as a mark of appreciation for his achievements in office and as encouragement for him to continue delivering quality governance to the people of the state.
Also speaking, the party’s National Secretary, Obioma Iheanacho, commended Governor Otti for remaining loyal to the party despite internal crises that affected the Labour Party in recent times.
He noted that while many politicians defected to other political platforms during the party’s challenges, Otti remained steadfast and committed to the Labour Party’s vision and leadership.
Responding, Governor Otti thanked the party leadership for the gesture, saying he deeply appreciated the honour bestowed on him by the National Working Committee.
The governor pledged continued support for the party and assured members that he would not disappoint them.
Otti also praised Senator Nenadi Usman for her role in stabilising the party and resolving the leadership crisis that had lingered within the Labour Party.
He expressed confidence that the party was now fully prepared for future elections, stating that all legal disputes and litigations against the Labour Party had been completely resolved.
“There is no subsisting litigation anywhere against the party,” the governor stated during the event.
Among those who accompanied Senator Usman to the ceremony were the party’s National Organising Secretary, Mrs. Oluchi Oparah; National Woman Leader, Hilda Dokubo; and National Publicity Secretary, Ken Asogwa.
The immediate past National Secretary of the party, Darlington Nwokocha, also received his free nomination form during the ceremony.
Also in attendance were Ginger Onwusibe, who led members of the Abia caucus in the House of Representatives, alongside members of the Abia State Executive Council.
