Actor-turned-politician Kenneth Okonkwo has announced his appointment as the spokesperson to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar ahead of the 2027 general election.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Okonkwo expressed gratitude to God and thanked Atiku for entrusting him with the responsibility.
“I give God all the glory to be appointed by His Excellency Atiku Abubakar as his Spokesperson. I thank HE AA for the immense confidence reposed in me,” he said.

Okonkwo described the appointment as evidence of Atiku’s democratic credentials, stating that the former vice president prefers dialogue and compromise over conflict whenever disagreements arise among his associates.
According to him, recent discussions involving Atiku and members of the African Democratic Congress addressed concerns relating to the South-East and provided assurances within the framework of the Electoral Act, 2026 and prevailing political realities.
He also acknowledged the contributions of several individuals whom he credited with supporting the coalition’s political efforts.
Okonkwo expressed special appreciation to Kashim Imam for what he described as valuable intervention and counsel that reinforced the vision of an inclusive Nigeria, irrespective of ethnicity, religion, gender, age, or cultural background.
He further thanked Ralphs Nwosu for his sacrifices in strengthening the ADC amid challenges confronting the coalition.
The newly appointed spokesperson also commended Ekene Onwuka for helping assemble a strong campaign team aimed at securing Atiku’s victory in the 2027 presidential election.
Okonkwo extended appreciation to his family, friends and supporters for their prayers and encouragement, asking for continued support as he assumes the role.
He said he would require wisdom, courage, provision and protection to discharge the responsibilities of the office effectively and contribute to what he described as the emergence of “a glorious and great Nigeria.”
