JUST IN: Over 30 Christians Feared Dead In Fresh Bandits Attack in Niger

Suspected bandits have launched a fresh attack on Kasuwan-Daji community in Kabe District of Niger State, killing over 30 residents. Several.othets were also abducted.

Most of the victims are said to be Christians.

The attack occurred on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at about 4:30pm, when armed men believed to have emerged from the National Park forest axis invaded the community, according to a police situation report.

During the raid, the assailants set the local market ablaze, looted shops, and carted away food items before fleeing.

Confirming the incident, the Niger State Police Command said a joint security team visited the scene on Sunday morning, January 4, where it was confirmed that over 30 people lost their lives, while an undisclosed number of residents were kidnapped.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said efforts are ongoing to rescue the abducted victims and restore calm in the area, adding that further developments would be communicated as investigations continue.

Meanwhile, a local cleric, Rev. Fr. Musa, told reporters that the victims were Christians and that a mass burial has been scheduled for Monday.

Kasuwan-Daji is located near Papiri, where 303 students of St. Mary’s Catholic School were abducted in November, heightening concerns over persistent insecurity in the state.

Nice read, I just passed this onto a colleague who was doing a little research on that. And he actually bought me lunch because I found it for him smile Therefore let me rephrase that: Thanks for lunch!
