Several people were injured after multiple explosions rocked Maiduguri on Monday evening, causing panic in busy public areas.
According to reports, the first explosion occurred at the Maiduguri Monday Market shortly after the evening iftar, around 7 p.m. The second blast was recorded at the entrance of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH).
Residents described scenes of chaos as traders and shoppers ran for safety. Emergency responders, including the police and security operatives, were quickly deployed to assist victims and secure the areas. Injured persons were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The Borno State Police Command spokesperson, Nahum Kenneth Daso, confirmed the incidents and urged residents to remain calm while investigations continue. He stated that the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit, Base 13 Maiduguri, was on the ground assessing the situation.

No official casualty figures have been released, as rescue and assessment operations are ongoing. Authorities are also investigating the cause of the explosions and whether they were linked to insurgent activity.
The blasts occurred during the holy month of Ramadan, a time when public spaces like markets and hospitals are particularly busy, raising fears for safety among residents.
