The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has teamed up with the European Union (EU) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to advance broadband mapping systems in the country.
At a three-day National Broadband Mapping System programme held in Abuja from August 5–6, 2025, experts and policymakers gathered to explore ways of improving internet connectivity and digital inclusion across Nigeria.
Speaking at the event, NCC’s Executive Vice Chairman, Dr. Aminu Maida, stressed the importance of accurate broadband data in expanding access to fast and reliable internet services nationwide. “With a proper mapping system, we can identify underserved areas and channel investments where they are needed most,” he said.
The EU Deputy Ambassador to Nigeria, Zissmos Vergas, and ITU officials reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Nigeria’s digital transformation, noting that better broadband coverage is key to economic growth, education, and job creation.
The initiative is part of the Africa-BroadBand Maps project, which aims to bridge the connectivity gap and ensure that no community is left behind in the digital era
