Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed deep sorrow over the death of legendary Super Eagles goalkeeper, Peter Rufai, fondly known as Dodo Mayana.
In an emotional tribute, Atiku described Rufai’s passing as a profound loss to the global football community, while also extending condolences to his family and the entire Nigerian football fraternity.

Peter Rufai’s remarkable contributions to the beautiful game will always be remembered, and he will be sorely missed,” Atiku said.
Peter Rufai was Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper during some of the nation’s most celebrated football moments, including the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations triumph and the 1994 FIFA World Cup in the USA. Known for his calm presence between the posts and leadership on the pitch, Rufai remains one of the most respected goalkeepers in African football history.
His death has left fans, colleagues, and sports lovers in deep mourning, with many paying tribute to his legacy and inspiration to younger generations.
