NITDA Takes Over Nigeria’s Digital Architecture Portal

The Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, has formally received the Nigeria Government Enterprise Architecture (NGEA) Portal, marking a key step in Nigeria’s digital transformation drive.

Speaking at the handover ceremony in Abuja on Thursday, Abdullahi, who was represented by the Director of Corporate Planning and Strategy, Dr Dimie Warowei, described the event as the outcome of a strategic partnership between Nigeria and the Republic of Korea, supported by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).

The NGEA project, launched in late 2022, is part of Nigeria’s e-Government Masterplan 2.0 aimed at modernising public sector digital systems and improving coordination across government institutions.

Abdullahi said Nigerian and Korean experts worked together for more than two years to review and upgrade the country’s enterprise architecture framework to improve efficiency, interoperability and alignment with national priorities.

Under the initiative, reference models covering technology, business and services were developed to guide implementation across ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs). Additional data and performance models are also expected to strengthen the system.

Pilot programmes were carried out in key government institutions including the National Identity Management Commission, Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Immigration Service and NITDA. These agencies also received capacity-building support and digital transformation roadmaps.

The NITDA DG added that the supporting infrastructure was deployed by indigenous firm Qorebox Technologies Limited and hosted within Galaxy Backbone facilities, with a two-year maintenance plan to ensure system stability.

He said the new portal is not just a digital platform but a foundation for a more coordinated and citizen-focused government.

“The successful implementation of enterprise architecture across government will help reduce duplication, improve interoperability and enhance service delivery,” he said.

In his remarks, KOICA Country Director, Eunsub Kim, said the portal reflects the success of the partnership between the agency and NITDA, while reaffirming KOICA’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s digital development.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Engr Nadungu Gagare, represented by Johnson Bareyei, said the NGEA portal marks a shift from fragmented digital initiatives to a coordinated national framework.

He noted that the project aligns with the ministry’s transformation agenda under the leadership of Minister Bosun Tijani.
