The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi has condemned the murder of Mrs. Victoria Chimtex.

Mrs. Chimtex is the Women Leader of Labour Party in Kaduna State, Northwest Nigeria. She was killed in Manchok, Kaura Local Government Area in what many say is politically motivated.

Reacting to her death Mr. Obi in a statement re-emphasized the need for government at all levels to prioritise security.

‘I am shocked by the mindless killing of Mrs. Victoria Chintex, the Labour Party’s women leader in Kaura, Kaduna State, by yet-to-be-identified gunmen. Her death is a huge loss to her immediate and extended family and our Labour Party. She lives on in our hearts.

“Her killing, and the loss of many innocent lives across the nation to gunmen and terrorists, are the reason why I must prioritise the war against insecurity as my first task in office. We must not allow the waste of human lives in Nigeria under any guise,” he said.

On his part, the zonal secretary of the party, Mr. Edward Buju,  in a statement said the husband of the deceased was also shot in his leg but was rushed to a medical facility for treatment.

“The Southern Kaduna, Zone 3, Labour Party (LP) family, the Chairman and excos of Kaura Local Government Area (LGA) condemn in very strong terms the brutal and cowardly assassination of our mother and sister, Mrs. Victoria Chimtex, Woman Leader, Kaura LGA Labour Party.

“The sad event took place yesterday (Monday) when some unknown gunmen broke into her family residence in Manchok, Kaura LGA, and shot her severally. Her husband was brutally shot in the leg and he is currently in an undisclosed hospital. The killers did not take any valuables in the house, suggesting assassination was the only mission of the wicked actors.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had raised an alarm over the trend of violence across the country and attacks on their members in Kaduna, Borno, Rivers, and Lagos states.

The attacks have persisted despite a peace accord signed by the political parties ahead of the elections.
